Question about Gargoyles

This past October I spent sometime in Cincinnati, Ohio.
While I was there, I rode around had fun and all like anyone would right? Well I was told about this area that was an off road and supposedly blocked off by local building and renovations of a town houses being built. The road for this area was hidden almost as if it didn't exist? The homes on this road all looked to of been built in the 1800's or early 1900's. There was a barn with christmas lights on it and lit up. I got out and looked around there and there wasn't any electrical cords or anything off the lights but they were lit? As we rode deeper down the road though, there were more homes that seemed to either be withering away or boarded up. Most of the homes were boarded up actually. But when u got to the end of the street there were two homes that looked like normal houses. Nothing outta the ordinary. Except big 7 foot and white Gargoyles. There were two on top of the garage, one in the yard next to an eery looking tree. Then there was a field between these homes and a statue of a woman with a blk demon spiraling around the lady. The house around the turn also had enormous White Gargoyles standing in their drive thru. I know gargoyles are meant to ward off evil spirits. But what would be so terribly bad in that area that someone would have that many? And why are they white? Aren't gargoyles either black or of a stone color?
